 The team of world class researchers in the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories is working with other top scientists internationally to accelerate the pace of research. Here is a snapshot of the scientific advancements for women everywhere.

The World

International

Vera Bradley Investigator in Oncology, ​Bryan P. Schneider, M.D., is lead investigator on a study of 5,000+ breast cancer patients from around the world, with the goal of offering patients personalized treatment based on which drugs will cause the fewest side effects.

Foundation lab researcher Anna Maria Storniolo, M.D., is leading the ​Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tissue Bank, the only normal breast tissue bio-repository of its kind in the world. It provides healthy tissue samples to investigators around the world—an invaluable key to research advancements.

The Americas

United States

Researcher ​Kathy D. Miller, M.D., is leading a national study of estrogen positive cancers that are resistant to Herceptin. She is now demonstrating that a telomerase inhibitor can re-sensitize tumors to Herceptin, prolonging progression free survival.

Central America

Research into the metastatic nature of the disease has helped bring treatment and early detection programs to women in Peru.

Africa

Kenya

Members of the research team are helping to provide early detection and appropriate treatment in Kenya through the Global Health Program. They are also initiating research to learn why certain breast cancers disproportionately affect women of African descent.

Asia

China

Along with three universities in China, researcher David Flockhart, M.D., Ph.D., is collaborating on personalized medicine research to uncover risk factors and potential targets for treatment.
