Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Total Giving at $17.65 million
Fort Wayne, Indiana (December 11, 2012) — The Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer raises $2.7 million to support breast cancer research at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in 2012, bringing the Foundation’s total giving to the cause to $17.65 million towards a $20 million pledge. Gifts from the Foundation began in 1998.
This total represents both an annual $1 million contribution from Vera Bradley, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRA) as well as $1.7 million raised through additional fundraising activities throughout the year, including the Vera Bradley Foundation Classic, Viva La Pink (Gathering of Girlfriends) and many events hosted by partners across the nation in support of the cause.
“The growth of the Foundation is extremely rewarding. We’re grateful for the partnership of many friends and business associates who share our hope for a cure,” says Catherine Hill, executive director, Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
The Foundation’s funds support 22 labs and 36 researchers and clinicians co-directed by Harikrishna Nakshatri, Ph.D., and Kathy Miller, M.D.
“Vera Bradley Foundation has been the key to our research discoveries that are leading to improved treatments for breast cancer. With Vera Bradley’s help, we are setting a world-wide standard of care at the IU Simon Cancer Center,” Dr. Miller said.
About the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer: The Foundation is celebrating its 14th year of funding the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis through a multi-year $20 million pledge. Since 1998, the Foundation has played an integral role in changing the face of breast cancer research by supporting 22 labs and 43 researchers and clinicians who are leading major advancements in drug therapies and setting a world-wide standard. The Foundation receives funding through national events, a $1 million annual gift from Vera Bradley (Nasdaq:VRA), and through donations on verabradley.org.
