Ever dreamed of being an artist? At Painting with a Twist (PWAT), a chain of art studios that pairs instructional art with fun, friends and wine, you can do just that, and in July they will be hosting special “Painting with a Purpose” events at 50 locations across the country to raise funds for breast cancer research. Last year, participating studios raised nearly $30,000 for the cause!

“The events are an outlet to honor, socialize and just plain have fun with family and friends,” says Ashley Herbert, owner of the PWAT at The Oaks shopping center in Beaumont, Texas.

In addition to creating a masterpiece and having fun with friends, the events are also a wonderful way to honor loved ones, and at some locations, owners have a special connection to the cause. “Several of our local artists have family members or friends that have experienced cancer, some specifically breast cancer, and many, many of our guests are survivors or are friends with or related to survivors or those that unfortunately have lost their battles,” says Ashley.

“We had a great response for our first event last year. We had a wonderful painting that everyone loved and they also liked the gifts and goodies,” says St. Petersburg PWAT location owner Leslie Gay, whose daughter-in-law was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Each studio will have a specially-selected piece for attendees to paint with an experienced artist providing step-by-step instruction, any portion of proceeds will go toward breast cancer research. (To view paintings by location, visit the store locator on paintingwithatwist.com.)

“It’s important to us as both a locally owned franchise as well as a franchise family to come together to serve all of our local communities collaboratively,” says Ashley. “It truly is a magical, healing, touching time.”
