Letter From the Executive Director - March

Fort Wayne, Indiana All of our steadfast supporters have known Dr. Linda Malkas for nearly a decade as the Vera Bradley Chair in Oncology and the co-leader of the team of researchers and clinicians we support. I wanted you to be among the first to know that she has resigned. Though we will miss her, this news is yet another testament to the impressive advancements underway within the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories. Linda was heavily recruited by City of Hope’s Beckman Institute in California. There, her discoveries will continue to progress toward the day when doctors use them to benefit breast cancer patients. So, our support is doing exactly what we had hoped.

While Linda was the original investigator that held the Chair title from our first endowment, our subsequent gifts have helped to develop and support a full team of 33 other breast cancer scientists collaborating at the The Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories. Under the continued leadership of the brilliant Dr. George Sledge, whose vision first captured our hearts, they are focused on the many causes of breast cancer and are rapidly moving their discoveries to the patient care arena. The dollars we raise will continue to be directed to our $20 million commitment to help women with breast cancer live longer, healthier lives.

The search has begun for a new Vera Bradley Chair in Oncology, and we will keep you apprised of that progress. We can’t thank Linda enough for giving a passionate voice to the research we support, and we wish her well in her new role.
